So i’ve been getting tons of comment spam. I’ve been using wordpress’s spam word list so most of it hasn’t made it to the front page but it’s still a pain having to go through and delete them.

Since i don’t have a job right now i’ve been playing around with ways to try to stop them and i think i may have got something working. Orignially I added a line in my comments page to check to see if any of the common spam words are contained in any of the comment fields and if so to just die and not submit. That seemed to work but i was still getting alot of hits from these bots or whatever they are so i decided to try a little something else. Now instead of merely not submitting i have the page redirected to start a download of a 20 meg file. I don’t know enough about how the spam bots work to know if it actually causes them any problems but hopefully it does.

it’s really simple code but if anyone wants to see it let me know.
