So I finally got around to setting up a mythtv box. I’ve wanted to do it for years but I had a hard time finding good information about hardware. I could never really find many pages where people would actually list all the hardware they were using and whether or not it worked. So that’s what I’m going to do here. This is not the end all be all system or anything like that. Just an example of some hardware that works. I ordered everything new and it all seems to be working good so far. so anyway here we go…
This doesn’t say much for the impartiality of game reviews at gamespot does it?

- Your data is fully encrypted at all times
- Data is stored at multiple Amazon.com datacenters around the country for high availability
- Access files directly from Windows Explorer, Mac OSX Finder, and Linux

the amazon service sounds pretty neat itself. being so cheap it makes me wonder how long it will be before we start storing all of our data at secure remote locations.
quicksilver is possibly one of the greatest apps ever written for a mac. if you don’t know about it you definitely need to check it out.
here is a free pdf book that will help you out with doing more than just launching applications (although that alone is enough reason to use quicksilver). like taking a screenshot or setting up triggers to control itunes.
The pirates of the world have fired another salvo in their ongoing war with copy protection schemes with the first release of the first full-resolution rip of an HD DVD movie on BitTorrent. The movie, Serenity, was made available as a .EVO file and is playable on most DVD playback software packages such as PowerDVD. The file was encoded in MPEG-4 VC-1 and the resulting file size was a hefty 19.6 GB.
this is really amazing. when they model tom cruises face it’s unbelievable.
Celltrade is a company that helps you to get out of your current phone contract. That way you can sign up with cingular to get the new iPhone.
It sounds like you basically sell your contract to another person. Celltrade just plays middle man. It costs $19.99 but hey that’s cheaper than paying $250 to buy out your contract and then another $599 for the iPhone.
Or if you want to get out for free there are some other alternatives… heh
sweet, google just released a patent search
i haven’t had a chance to play with it much but it looks pretty neat
i don’t know what this will accomplish but hopefully it will make music companies think twice about their anti-copy software.
“Sony has engaged in a technological version of cloak and dagger deceit against consumers by hiding secret files on their computers,” said Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott in a statement after suing under the state’s anti-spyware law.

Gas prices are no problem with truck that burns wood
**UPDATE**
this post is over two years old but it still seems to get hits. it seems that the link above no longer works… so… i’ll post a few things here i’ve found recently on wood powered vehicles.
this is an article from Mother Earth News about wood gasification.
after WWII Toyota made 26,000 wood burning trucks in japan. there is more info and a photo here
i think most all of these are based on the wood gas generator described on wikipedia here
i’ll look for some more info as i get time.
